1.8" LCD - 3456 x 2304 Image - PictBridge - MPN: 0206B001
Strengths: Autofocus - Very Fast, Photo quality is really good as long as ISO
Weakness: When ISO=1600, some noise come out.
this gadget is you can set every scene manually or automatic from focus, white balance, aperture, speed, flash, ISO, metering etc. This is important for the professional photographer to have the best photo. Continues shooting feature is 3 times a second and starting time below a second. I try a many setting in manual shoot with set the aperture, white balance and aperture the result is very good that I never have a photo like it is before. The battery is good even I already shoot 100 times with maximum jpg files (8 m pixel) the batteries still function in good condition. The 350D can use any Canon mount lenses. I recommend this camera for the professional photographer beside the complete features this gadget has a valuable compare its price

TopStrengths: lightest DSLR; great lens + body package at a great price; made in Japan, not Thailand like Nikon D50
Weakness: LCD too dim on normal setting when outdoors, grip narrow for big hands
I have been waiting a couple of years to buy a DSLR. In the past, the DSLRs were just too expensive for an amateur's budget. The original Rebel was quite tempting, but I read there were some small problems, so I waited. This year, Canon really came through for me with the Rebel XT. Canon fixed all the problems with the original Rebel, priced the XT well below $1000 with the kit lens, and made it the lightest & most compact DSLR out there. I am sure the Rebel XT will be the best selling DSLR this year!
I have had the XT for 3 months now. I think I have shot 3500 pictures so far -- indoors, outdoors, with and without flash. The camera is very fast. The start up is instantnous. As soon as you switch it on, it's ready to shoot. In continues mode, the camera will buffer at least 9 shots before it starts to write to compact flash (CF). I have a pretty fast CF, and I was able to shoot 3 large size photos per second for 15 seconds before the camera slowed down!! Focusing is very fast too, but this is really due to the lens, not the camera body.
As for the picture quality, the photos come out great. The colors are vivid. You will want to buy a polarizer filter to make the sky look bluer. The kit lens is quite good for general shooting. The minimum focus length is like 2 inches, so you can take very good macro photos.
Just a few minor thing I want to point out. The LCD is a little dim when viewing outdoors, so I just leave it on the highest brightness. The flash photos are a little dark for my taste, so I have Flash Exposure Adjustment on +2/3EV all the time. Lastly, the grip is a little narrow if you have big hand.
** Compared with a Point and Shoot digicam
The Rebel XT will have faster startup time, faster focus speed, faster shooting speed, no delay between shots, complete control over the focus and exposure, allow you to use 50+ different canon lens, shoot at ISO 1600 with little noise, use powerful external flash(es), 8 meg pixel vs 3 or 5, and battery will last 500+ shots.
On the other hand, there is no video mode on the XT, same as any DSLR. Also, you need to use the eye-piece to compose the shot instead of the LCD, same as any DSLR. LCD is only for review. Of course, any DSLR is heavier than a P/S digicam.
** Compared with Nikon D70/D50
Well, if you already have either Nikon or Canon SLR equipment, then you should stick with that brand. It doesn't make sense to buy all new stuff. If you are starting new or just have too much money, read on.
Overall, 90% of the features, functions and capabilities are the same among these Nikon and Canon models. They all can produce amazing pictures in an experienced hand. With that said, the Rebel XT is lighter and more compact than both D70 and D50, so it's easier to carry. The XT is cheaper at at least $250 cheaper than D70, and it's about the same price as D50. However, the Nikon D50 is made in Thailand, and the Rebel XT is made in Japan. While I am sure Nikon has very good quality control, I just don't associate cutting-edge digital quality with Thailand. Also, in general, Canon lenses are less expensive than Nikon.

TopStrengths: Excellent picture quality, fast start up time, wide range of available lenses, lots of support from other users on the Web,
Weakness: None so far
I've been using the Canon Digital Rebel XT for 3 months now. I upgraded from the original Digital Rebel and from point and shoot cameras previously. Just a warning, once you go DSLR you'll never go back.
The picture quality of the Digital Rebel XT is amazing. The pictures are clear and precise. Now a lot of this depends on the lens you use. The kit lens that comes with the Rebel XT kit is acceptable. It is the cheapest lens that is 18mm wide. A great addition is the 28-105mm f/3.5-4.5 II USM Autofocus Lens. If you have deep pockets then go to the L glass series. The Canon 70-200 f/4 is an awesome lens or even the f/2.8. But more than anything it is the user behind the camera that makes the most of the difference than the lens in front. So first learn how to use the camera to its fullest and then worry about lenses.
I have been able to take 50 continuous shots in JPG mode with a fast CF card. Look at either the SanDisk Ultra II or the Kingston Elite Pro cards. Each 8MP picture will be approximately 4MB in JPG mode or 8MB in RAW mode so get a high capacity card. I have 2 2GB cards and love every MB of storage.
Start up time is fast, under a second. This is great when your 3 year old pulls a funny face or the deer you just spotted just spotted you too. And lag time is almost nothing. You click and the picture takes. I have never used a point and shoot that could top the XT. Less missed shots and that is very important.
Be sure to use the resources on the Web to educate yourself about how to take full advantage of the XT. A great resource is www.dpreview.com in the 300D/350D forum.
Just a warning. I call photography my habit not my hobby. I have spent almost $3,000 in the past 4 months accumulating an external flash, more lenses - wide angle (WA), zoom, telephoto zoom, prime, extra batteries, card readers, UV filters, circular polarizers, and more compact flash cards. I need to go to rehab. And don't forget the camera bag to hold all of the stuff and another bag to carry the camera while hiking or walking around. Check out my reviews on the Lowepro Nova 4 AW Camera Shoulder Bag and the Tamrac 5746 Velocity 6 Compact Sling Pack Camera Bag.

TopStrengths: Lightweight, long battery life, low noise at high ISO, continuous shooting, photo quality (8 Mpx), inexpensive for DSLR
Weakness: 1.6x crop factor, plastic body
My wife and I recently purchased the Digital Rebel XT -- it's our first SLR/DSLR after many years of digital and film point-and-shoot style cameras. We love this camera! -- of course, upgrading from a P&S to a DSLR has that "wow" factor.
The write speed is fantastic ... we paired this with a Sandisk ultra II card and on the highest quality JPG can take well over 40 continuous shots (possibly more, but didn't care to try and fill a 2GB card). The battery life is equally amazing -- we did over 300 shots (~10% w/flash) the day we got the camera and the battery was still going. I have to disagree with one of the previous reviews that said the battery was difficult to remove... there is a tab that holds the battery in place and when I push it back the battery slides out no problem.
We did a lot of comparison with the 20D and went with the XT because of the price, weight, and similar quality. Check the other reviews, the photo quality of the XT is close to the 20D. While it's true that the 20D feels more like an SLR "should" (nice weight, good grip), the feel of the XT suit us fine and since we do a lot of backpacking/climbing, the weight of the camera is a major factor for us. The XT actually suits my wife better than the 20D because she has small hands. I guess you need to go hold both cameras to see which one is best for you.

TopStrengths: Very quick response time and gerat looking pictures. When coupled with a good zoom, the quality is amazing.
Weakness: I am still trying to find the right setting for some pictures when when zooming during nightime indoor events.
I have found the camera easy to use. Quick response and repeat time enabled great pics to be taken during the NYC marathon yeaterday. Great overall camera. Definitely recommend to anyone to buy.

TopStrengths: 8 megapixels, SLR, interchangeble lens, AF, wide variety of ISO speeds, fast start time, continious shooting, picture quality, can use generic AA batteries (with adapter), cheap in its class
Weakness: 1.6 zoom factor, plastic case
This camera was bought as an upgrade to Fujifilm Finepix 4900, so I'll just point out what are the major improvements for me so far (besides obvious ones, which come from the fact that it is 8MP and SLR).
1) start time less than a second
2) fast & quiet AF, IS
3) in emergency it can use generic AA batteries (although I didn't buy the adapter yet)
4) continuous shooting (to get most of it, you will need to buy a good fast CompactFlash)
Strangely, since XT is SLR, there is also a downgrade: I can review the shooted pictures only on the LCD, not in viewfinder. But on bright sunlight it can be difficult to see.
But definitely, XT worth the money, especially since it is relatively cheap.

TopStrengths: 8 mega pixel. array of controls, flexiblity, and so many add-on options. quality is top-notched.
Weakness: none i've found so far.
i bought this one as a present for my sister to take pictures of her kids, and this camera is great. it's really difficult to take pictures of kids since their attention-span is so short, and you really want shutter to click as soon as you see the moment coming otherwise you just miss another kodak moment. with its fast shutter (up to 3 frames per seoncd) i have no problem capturing most of those moments ( i doubt that ever faster shutter would make the difference since it depends on the reaction time of the photographer just as much as the shutter. after adding the 580ex flash, the pictures of the kids just come out gorgeous and amzaingly clear! i didnt get the lens kit because i got a better lens instead.

TopStrengths: Razor Sharp Photos. 3 Frames per second functioning. Many MANY features. Nice looking. Great software package associated with it.
Weakness: Just a tad expensive but probably worth it.
OK. This is my second Rebel XT (my first was a black camera body, this purchase was a silver body camera). The first, my son got, now my wife is claiming this one!
That gives you an idea how much we like these cameras.
The silver bodied version happened to be cheaper than the earlier black-bodied version we had purchased in the past so we bought the silver-bodied version this time around. It was nice looking in the pictures, it is even nicer looking in person.
The photos are great quality. Everything works well. We run XP Home on one computer and XP Media Center Edition 2005 on the other and no problems either way with the software package, downloading photos to computer, etc.
They say 10 Megapixels will be equivalent to film but I can't see an appreciable difference with film compared to this as it is, at least with standard sized photos. One exception is when we blew up a photo to 14 inches by 11 inches. The difference was only then slightly noticable.
Ovarall a great product and a reasonable buy.

TopStrengths: Very light, easy to carry around, small and compact, inexpensive DSLR
Weakness: Like most complaints, it is sometimes too small and doesn't feel sturdy enough. Opening the CF slot causes the camera to stop whatever it's doing (including writing to the card).
I've been using this for three months, and I've gotten more compliments than I ever did in two years using my old point and shoot camera. The camera does all the work to get really great results.

Top I like its fantastic 8 mb resolution, good color and picture quality. The relatively smaller size and lighter weight is convienent for long distance travel. With full manul functions are good enough for entry level buyer.
What I dislike is its battery life.

TopStrengths: new technology
Weakness: not as durable as my cannon AE1, I wouldn't take it skiing.
I have enjoyed getting the pictures in an instant and I don't waste money printing poor pics. This is great. I'm the kind of guy that will read the instructions along enough to get it up and running then start playing with it. I found out what the format select does the hard way. I lost some good pictures. This camera was a bit pricey but if it is half as good as my Cannon AE1 SLR I look forward to many years of great photos.

TopThis is one of the best digital SLR cameras available at the consumer level. The picture quality is awesome and features are excellent. its lightweight and pretty small in size for a SLR. Paired with a Caonon IS USM lens, the results are terrific.

TopStrengths: extremely high quality, very powerful, very flexible
Weakness: expensive for just point and shooting, slightly technical
This camera is cool. It does about everything. Highly recomended for the serious amatuer that loves fooling around with electronics, also modestly recomended for the techo idiot that requires supurb quality images.

The 350D / Rebel XT delivers an almost unbeatable package of quality, speed, size and price. The most obvious selling point is of course its 8 megapixel resolution, and while the difference between this and its 6 megapixel rivals can be subtle, it's certainly visible in real life results. Thankfully the smaller pixel pitch doesn't compromise noise levels, and Canon's DiG!C II processor ensures...

The Canon Digital Rebel XT builds upon one of the most popular digital cameras in recent years (the original Digital Rebel), improving on its predecessor in just about every parameter we measured. All things considered I'd say that the Canon Digital Rebel XT is the entry-level digital SLR to beat at this point in time. It offers nearly all of the features of the more expensive EOS-20D but for hundreds less. My biggest complaints are the soft images, especially using the kit lens at smaller apertures, and some build quality gripes that I'll get into later. But for those ready to move up to...

Strengths: Great noise control in high ISO situation, fast power-on responding time, excellent image quality
Weakness: Battery is a little difficult to be replaced
I helped one of my friends to get Canon 350D (silver) body and have a chance to be familiar with it. It has a pretty fast power-on responding time, which makes it hard to miss some impressive moments even if the camera is orginally in power-off state. This is a big improvement when compared to Canon 300D which has a power-on responding time as long as several seconds.
The noise control of Canon 350D in high ISO situation is amazing. I shot at ISO 1600 with it and the image quality is still quite acceptable for me. For comparison purpose, I've used Canon 300D for more than a year but seldom dared to use it to shoot at ISO 800 or above due to noise problem.
One little problem of Canon 350D that bothers me is that its battery is not so easy to be removed even if the batter cover is opened and the holding swith is released. I had to shake the camera gently to get the battery out of 350D body. I am not sure whether this is just a single case or it's designed for 350D. This may be an improvement over 300D whose battery cover could be loosed and make the camera power off in the middle of shooting. However, I expected such an improvement to be achieved in 350D without the necessity to shake the camera when I want to change the battery. Anyway, this tiny limitation doesn't bother too much as far as you are aware of it.
Overall, Canon 350D provides excellent functions as well as high image quality. Despite of the little battery problem, I would still highly recommend it for those who want to experience the fun of DSLR.
